aviation : Austrian Aeromedical Center and Vienna Airport Health Center combine their services – Aviation.Direct

par Janine RUBIOle 11 novembre 202411 novembre 2024

With the opening of the Austrian Aeromedical Center in the Health Center Vienna Airport, Vienna Airport will once again become a hub not only for international air traffic, but also for specialized medical services.

From now on, aviation medical examinations and psychological support at the highest level can be accessed directly at the location. In addition to the flying personnel of Austrian Airlines, the Aeromedical Center’s services are also available to external flight personnel. The airport and airline see this step as a strategic further development of the so-called “AirportCity”, which offers employees short routes and a wide range of services at the location.

Aviation medical care and psychological support for airline personnel

At the Austrian Aeromedical Center, flying personnel and airline employees can be cared for in a state-of-the-art medical environment. According to Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann, the center is intended to strengthen the trust and safety of airline crews. In addition to aeromedical examinations and ensuring medical fitness, comprehensive psychological support is also offered here. This is important to Kissers in times of increased psychological stress due to global uncertainty and the special demands on aircrew. Psychological support is provided by a specialized team that is available both preventatively and in crisis situations.

Under the direction of Dr. Catharina Czerny, an experienced specialist in aviation medicine, has five doctors, two qualified nurses, a work and organizational psychologist and an emergency psychologist at her disposal in the Aeromedical Center. The center offers a wide range of aeromedical services, including flight psychological testing required for training as well as cockpit and cabin licensing. In addition, the team provides general medical care for Austrian Airlines’ approximately 6,000 employees and undertakes occupational medical examinations and preventive health measures.

Vienna Airport Health Center: Comprehensive medical services for travelers and employees

The Health Center Vienna Airport, which is located in Office Park 3 at Vienna Airport, not only offers flight personnel competent medical care, but is open to anyone interested. On an area of 1,200 m², specialized doctors and physicians offer comprehensive medical care in a broad spectrum, ranging from general medicine to specialized areas such as internal medicine, orthopedics, ophthalmology and aesthetic medicine. According to the airport, the center is designed to provide patient care quickly and without long waiting times, which highlights the stress and hectic nature of travel.

In addition to medical services, the Health Center Vienna Airport has a wide range of additional services that go beyond basic care and serve prevention and recovery. The center offers, among other things, cold therapies, a variety of infusion therapies, nutritional advice and healing massages. Other modern treatments include cosmetic therapies as well as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and hypnosis, for example to help you quit smoking. For private patients, the health center also enables accelerated MRI and CT appointments through cooperation with the Meidling Diagnostic Center.

AirportCity Vienna: A concept for short distances and comprehensive service offerings

With the Vienna Airport Health Center and the Austrian Aeromedical Center at Vienna Airport, we are also in the easier transport hub in AirportCity. “The goal is to create a comprehensive range of services for all employees and travelers,” explained Günther Ofner, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG, in a statement. AirportCity will be further strengthened by integrating various medical service providers and focusing on short distances to the airport.

With AirportCity Vienna, Vienna Airport is aiming to develop a versatile and modernly equipped center that meets the needs of passengers and employees. This further development also contributes to the general attractiveness of the airport and underlines its claim to play a central role not only as a transit point, but also as a service location in the Vienna region.

Importance of specialized medical care for the airline industry

The importance of specialized medical services for flying personnel can hardly be overestimated. The aeromedical examinations and psychological support measures offered at the Austrian Aeromedical Center are crucial for maintaining the physical and mental health of the crews. Working conditions in aviation are often challenging and subject employees to particular stresses, ranging from shift work and jet lag to social isolation and psychological stress. Therefore, the new center represents a valuable resource that will be used in both preventive and interventional ways.

The proximity of these services also gives employees access to medical care and thereby promotes general well-being. Having these health resources on site not only saves time and travel, but also creates trust and gives the flying personnel additional security in their challenging work.

Outlook: A sign of the future of AirportCity

With the opening of the Austrian Aeromedical Center and the continuous expansion of the Health Center at Vienna Airport, Flughafen Wien AG is sending a clear signal for the future. AirportCity Vienna has the potential to develop into a comprehensive health and service center that is available not only to travelers, but also to employees and residents in the region. The developments show how airports are increasingly positioning themselves in modern times as multifunctional locations that go far beyond pure air traffic and integrate a variety of services.
