aviation : Must have or fail of the year? – Aviation.Direct

Fresh Pistachio Dubai Edition: What makes it so unforgettable and does it deliver what it promises? To all the foodies who don’t know them yet, we have made a comparison of 6 Dubai foods to make it easier for you to buy the right Dubai chocolate.

Anyone who follows social channels and calls themselves a foodie has probably already come into contact with the hype surrounding Dubai chocolate or similar product variations derived from it.

Clear plastic canned drinks called “Fresh Drinks” have been available on the market for some time. The Germany-based company has now also jumped on the “Dubai bandwagon” and is currently offering a special “Dubai Edition”. Since December 30, 2024, this drink has also been available in branches of the German discounter Aldi Süd. Is it the luxury drink of the year?

The “Fresh Pistachio Dubai Edition” drink is offered in a clear plastic container that makes the contents visible. The manufacturer of the products tries to convince the customer with a very unique, neon green color of the drink and a unique drinking experience. This beautiful color also increased my interest in the product. I discovered it personally at a gas station. The manufacturer assures the consumer that their drink, the pistachios, which are bottled unsalted and without additional processing, offer a fabulous refreshment.

Drink in a transparent plastic container

In practice, however, this is not really relevant, because – to put it non-judgmentally – it is a bright green liquid, carefully dosed with a print and product information. Personally, I find the design very old-fashioned. I assume that the eye-catcher is supposed to be the color of the drink and the image of Dubai chocolate is just supposed to inform the consumer what it might taste like. The taste of the drink hardly reflects chocolate or pistachios. A well-intentioned advice taste the chocolate before trying this drink. This drink has a light aroma that might associate it with the original Dubai chocolate.

The dose does not correspond to the latest trend to reduce plastic consumption figures. In times when it is important to avoid the use of plastics, also known pejoratively as plastic, the use of this packaging material is questionable, although an aluminum can would perform just as poorly in terms of the environmental balance.

According to the manufacturer, the pistachios used in the drink should only come from natural pome fruit and contain no additives. According to the manufacturer, they come from selected growing regions, the exact origin of which is not specified, which is probably intended to encourage ecologically responsible consumers to buy. But why is the place of their origin not mentioned? With its minimalist content list of this product, the “Dubai Edition” is aimed at buyers who value unprocessed food.

Brought onto the market by a Cologne company

The drink is sold by Cologne-based Boname GmbH, which, according to its company website, has been active in the beverage wholesale and bottling sector for many years. Officially, “Fresh Pistachio Dubai Edition” is said to come from the Netherlands, but the Cologne-based signature acts as a responsible company within the meaning of German law. Apart from the ingredients, which are printed in different languages, the packaging is not particularly informative about the origin and place of production.

The luxury version of the so-called fresh drinks, which are available in many supermarkets and also at gas stations, appears as a gift-green liquid when poured into the glass. Visually it is immediately visible that the drink is slightly carbonated. You could set the degree a little lower than mild mineral water. Because tastes are known to vary, this product was tasted by two testers independently. The subjective impressions and opinions are presented below to give you an insight into the taste of the product.

Dubai drink in a double test

Tester 1 said:

“The marketing of the drink is obviously based on the hype surrounding the so-called Dubai chocolate, because it is even printed on the plastic container.” In my opinion, that is a bit misleading because, apart from the use of pistachios, it has nothing to do with it. After opening it, I first noticed that “Fresh Pistachio Dubai Edition” had what I subjectively perceived as an artificial smell.

When I drank it, I initially noticed little to no taste, but this developed immediately afterwards and remained as a subjective and indefinable aftertaste. It’s not my autumn and I personal weekend that the price-performance ratio doesn’t fit. However, this depends heavily on the retailer, as I have seen price ranges between 1.59 euros and 2.50 euros and more. Regardless, the company charged a hefty price for 0.33 liters for a drink “that is difficult for me as a consumer to assess in terms of taste.”

Tester 2 is of the opinion:

“This drink made me curious about its taste because of its bright green color.” The price is 1.59 or 2.50 euros for 0.33 liters. The image does not represent the contents of the dose!

When I bought the drink I thought the price was okay because I was familiar with the Dubai chocolate price per bar of 5-15 euros. The contents of the can should imitate the taste of Dubai chocolate, but be available to the consumer in a drinkable form. In my opinion, a good idea because when eating chocolate we often get dirty and have to wash our hands. When it comes to the can, you just open it, drink it and throw it away. But what does the image have to do with taste?

For the consumer like me who looks for natural flavors in their drinks, this price would be acceptable if it actually tasted and smelled like pistachio. But why does the picture on the can embody Dubai chocolate and the description of the contents only promises a drink made from pure pistachios without additives. Where is the promised chocolate? That was very misleading for me as a consumer!

Unfortunately, the best thing about the product is its color! Why do I say something like that, because I personally didn’t expect such a strong carbonated taste, which also gave off a milk chocolate aroma to my nose when I opened the can.

After the first sip, I was blown away and felt the need to spit out the green liquid. The image of the Dubai chocolate specialty, the promise of the natural pistachio flavor, is web. I smell a strong chocolate aroma and the taste is hard to describe. The best way I would describe it is extremely diluted, long-stale, carbonated chocolate milk.

Store in a cool place instead of room temperature? would that make a difference. Unfortunately I can’t tell you that. I haven’t chilled it, however strongly this would make such an extreme difference.

Illustration has to go! I would immediately remove the image of Dubai Chocolate Summers. The smell seems very artificial, the taste, as already mentioned, is very stale and the carbon dioxide is very irritating!

Confusion of the senses! My senses of taste and smell were confused. I see, read, a natural pistachio flavor, I smell milk chocolate and when drinking a stronger taste of a stale aroma drowned out water. When this liquid spread its aroma on my palate, I immediately wanted to spit it out and, to be honest, that has never happened to me before. I decide to give the drink a chance and swallow it. At that moment I regret it, shake my head and say to myself, « Over my dead body », I go into the kitchen and empty the remaining contents into the sink. The unpleasant smell of this drink irritates me so much that I immediately take the can to the trash room.

Conclusion: I have no regrets about taking the “Leap of Faith” over this product. As a foodie, I will always be more curious and try new market products. “But I prefer to stick with chocolate.”
